December 31, 1799. An isolated farm in the woods and in the interior, a wife, two children and a husband who must leave for the village. He promises to be back soon, but has to leave Espérance, his wife, alone with Mathurin and Madelon. During the evening, the storm begins to rumble. Then arrive five British soldiers seeking refuge for the night.
