Summary:

In this Quebec tragic comedy, Gaston, a trumpeter on the downslide, comes back from Cleveland to Montreal where Florence, who loves him in vain, is ecstatic about his return.  But Gaston falls for Soledad, Florence’s actress-daughter, and tries to console her: Soledad has just caught her unfaithful lover, Tibo, being unfaithful to her.

But progress is slow, so one evening Gaston’s friends handcuff him to Soledad right before she goes onstage. The audience is delighted, but Florence is heartbroken — as is Tibo — who is playing opposite Soledad and still loves her madly. The pleasantly bizarre world of cabarets serves as the backdrop to the Shakespearean drama that unfolds and undermines the traditional love triangle by leading to a joyously buffoonish conclusion.
