Synopsis :

The Country in her Throat is a TV movie about the legendary Emma “Albani” Lajeunesse (1874-1930), one of the most sought-after soprano singers of the 19th and early 20th century.

The film retraces Albani’s brilliant career through her sister’s memories. Her sister, Cornelia, was a pianist who accompanied Albani throughout her career.

Albani performed in London, Paris, Italy, Russia and in North America, in operas by composers such as Gluck, Mozart, Rossini, Bellini, Verdi, Gounod, Thomas, Massenet, Wagner, as well as now less familiar operas by Auber, Reyer, Flotow, and Rubinstein.

Her last public performance was in London in 1911. In 1925, Albani was made a Dame Commander of the British Empire.  In 1980, Canada issued a postage stamp honoring her on the 50th anniversary of her death.
